Gasoline Update

The price of gasoline continues to drop. There is plenty of gas available now, although after Hurricane Ike hit southern Texas we had terrible shortages the whole month of September. Thankfully my job is not far from the school campus, so I can get back and forth on less than one tank of gas if I don’t drive anywhere else.

I just filled up again this afternoon for only $1.59 a gallon at the BP. That is a huge savings over what we were paying back in August. The worst I saw was at $4.21 a gallon right before Labor Day. Being able to fill up now, just 2 months later, for under $25 is a great relief.

President Obama

Just heard on TV that the election has been decided in favor of Barack Obama.

McCain has conceded in a well said speech to his followers in Phoenix. He was very gracious and distinguished. He is an amazing man.

Obama made a nice speech in Chicago in front of tens of thousands of people at the rally in Grant Park. Amazing to see history in the making.

All News

Haven’t looked at the TV schedule for tonight but I have a feeling it will be all news of the election and not much else. I don’t mind a little election coverage, but so much of it is just speculation and opinion until the polls all close and the final numbers are announced. Something I had not considered until this morning is the potential for riots in Chicago where Obama is having his rally. I feel great apprehension for the safety of the people in Chicago tonight, regardless of whether Obama wins or loses.

All About Earthquakes

Lately there have been so many natural disasters in the news. We had several bad hurricanes, especially Hurricane Ike that hit Galveston and Houston last month. There have been huge raging fires in California and other western states. And there have been several strong earthquakes, like the one in china that hit just a month or so before the Olympics.

I found a site that the US Government maintains about hurricanes. The USGS site has interactive maps of different regions that show a week’s worth of earthquake activity.

Congress Knuckles Under with Tons of Pork

So the Senate passes a bail out bill with tons of pork attached and sends it over to the House of Representatives. After several days of politicking and behind the scenes deals, the House met on Friday and passes the bail out bill. It was hand carried over to Presidnet Bush who signed it immediately.

The big whigs on Wall Street must be partying their asses off this weekend. I know that the executives at AIG all went to a 5 star resort to celebrate their Government bail out gift. This whole thing makes me so disgusted I can’t even speak.
