In Search of a Host
Some of my buddies are kicking around the idea of buying some web site domains and creating web pages to sell items over the internet. Since we are already working in a warehouse and understand how to handle inventory, pack it and ship it out, all we are missing is the part about selling it to have our own little business venture. Granted, we might be a full year away from being able to pull it all together, but we figure we should be making more money for all this hard work and the guys we work for can’t be any smarter than we are. They are just older and making more money.
I started looking for a domain hosting site and getting information together about how much it will cost each month and what kind of technical things do we need to know to have our own web site. since this is a start up business we have to watch our expenses really carefully and I’m trying to find a cheap webhosting site that has a good technical support department in case we run into problems and need help quick.
Found a site that lists most of the cheap hosting sites, called webhostingchoice.com and they have a chart with the name of each site, how much the monthly fee is, how much they charge you for setup, and other important categories.
This site also has a “Learning Center” with FAQs and pages that explain some of the technical things like colocation, bandwidth, and dedicated servers. I have to read up on all these things so that when we are ready to make a decision it will be an informed decision, not just grabbing the cheapest place we can find. Sometimes you get what you pay for and when it’s really important you don’t always want to go the cheapest route.
